BGP025 | Mathematics Intelligence Day 04

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

In this engaging video session by Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar, part of the Born Genius Challenge, children are introduced to mathematical intelligence through a fun and interactive activity called the Tall Tree Adventure. Using number blocks, kids learn the concept of vertical stacking to reach fruits on a tall tree. This activity not only teaches counting and basic arithmetic but also emphasizes balance, order, and the importance of each number in forming a structure. It’s a delightful way for toddlers to start recognizing mathematical concepts while having fun.

  1. Set Up the Scene: Arrange number blocks in front of your child and explain that the blocks need to stack up to reach the fruits on the tall tree.
  2. Start Stacking: Begin by placing the number one block at the bottom. Then, sequentially add blocks (2, 3, 4, 5) to form a tower.
  3. Interactive Counting: As each block is added, ask your child to count the blocks together with you.
  4. Reverse the Order: If your child prefers, you can stack the blocks in reverse order (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) and count down.
  1. Enhances Counting Skills: Helps children practice counting and recognize numbers in a fun context.
  2. Promotes Balance and Coordination: Teaches the concept of balance and how to stack objects.
  3. Encourages Problem-Solving: Introduces basic problem-solving by figuring out how to stack the blocks to reach the fruits.
  4. Builds Confidence: Successfully completing the stack gives children a sense of achievement and boosts their confidence.
  1. Keep It Fun: Ensure the activity remains playful and stress-free. The goal is to have fun while learning.
  2. Adapt to Skill Level: Adjust the difficulty based on your child’s familiarity with numbers. Use fewer blocks if necessary.
  3. Use Real Fruits: To make it more engaging, use real fruits or treats as a reward when the tower is complete.
  4. Encourage Participation: Let your child take the lead in stacking and counting to promote independence and confidence.
