BGP026 | Mathematics Intelligence Day 05

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

In this exciting video session by Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar, part of the Born Genius Challenge, children embark on a thrilling adventure in a dark cave. Through the Dark Cave Adventure, kids learn important mathematical concepts such as counting, adding, and understanding higher and smaller numbers. Using number blocks, they solve a puzzle to create a flashlight that helps them navigate through the cave. This interactive activity not only teaches math but also emphasizes teamwork and problem-solving.

  1. Create the Cave: Use cushions, blankets, or any available materials to set up a “dark cave” in your living room.
  2. Introduce the Puzzle: Explain to your child that the number blocks need to combine to make a number greater than 10 to create a flashlight.
  3. Combine the Blocks: Start stacking number blocks together, encouraging your child to count along and see if the combined number is greater than 10.
  4. Navigate the Cave: Once the flashlight is “created,” help your child use it to safely walk through the cave, counting their steps as they go.
  1. Improves Counting Skills: Helps children practice counting and understanding the sequence of numbers.
  2. Teaches Addition: Introduces the concept of combining numbers to make a larger number.
  3. Encourages Problem-Solving: Children learn to solve puzzles and think critically to navigate through the cave.
  4. Promotes Teamwork: Emphasizes the importance of working together and helping each other.
  1. Keep It Simple: Ensure the activity remains fun and stress-free. Use numbers your child is familiar with.
  2. Use Real-Life Examples: Relate the activity to real-life scenarios, such as using a flashlight in the dark, to make it more engaging.
  3. Encourage Participation: Let your child take the lead in stacking blocks and counting to boost their confidence and independence.
  4. Celebrate Success: Praise your child for their efforts and successes, no matter how small, to keep them motivated and excited about learning.
