BGP027 | Imaginative Play Jurassic Park

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

In this engaging video session by Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar, part of the Born Genius Program, children and parents are invited to embark on an imaginative play adventure themed around dinosaurs. Titled “Imaginative Play – Jurassic Park,” the session introduces toddlers to various dinosaur species through pretend play. Dr. Tamhankar guides parents and caregivers on how to transform their living room into a Jurassic world, using simple household items, flashcards, and stuffed toys. The goal is to educate children about dinosaurs in a fun and interactive manner, while also introducing concepts like paleontology, carnivores, herbivores, and more.

  1. Set the Scene: Use your living room or play area as the Jurassic Park setting. Gather dinosaur toys, flashcards, and household items like cushions and explore hats or toy binoculars.
  2. Introduce Dr. Dino and Junior Explorer: Parents or caregivers act as Dr. Dino, the paleontologist, and the child becomes the Junior Explorer. Explain the role of a paleontologist and get ready for the adventure.
  3. Explore and Learn: Introduce different dinosaurs like T-Rex, Brachiosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Pteranodon. Use flashcards or toys, explain their characteristics, and encourage the child to mimic their actions.
  4. Dinosaur Dig: Pretend to dig for dinosaur bones using a sandbox or hidden bones under cushions. Identify the bones and match them to the correct dinosaurs.
  1. Educational Fun: Introduces educational concepts such as paleontology, dinosaur species, and dietary habits (carnivores and herbivores) in an enjoyable way.
  2. Cognitive Development: Enhances vocabulary, memory, and understanding of scientific concepts through interactive play.
  3. Creativity and Imagination: Stimulates creative thinking and imaginative play as children pretend to be explorers and dinosaurs.
  4. Bonding Time: Provides a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to bond, play, and learn together.
  1. Use Simple Props: Utilize easy-to-find household items like cushions, paper-made dinosaur bones, and hand-drawn maps to create an engaging play environment.
  2. Encourage Participation: Involve the child in every step, from digging for bones to mimicking dinosaur sounds and actions, to keep them engaged and excited.
  3. Be Flexible: Allow the child to take the lead at times and explore their own imaginative paths. The guidelines are flexible, and the main goal is to have fun.
  4. Reinforce Learning: Repeat the names of dinosaurs and their characteristics several times to reinforce learning and retention. Use positive reinforcement to encourage participation and correct answers.
