BGP028 | Doctor Pretend Play

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

In this engaging video session by Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar, part of the Born Genius Challenge, children participate in a fun and educational pretend play activity called Doctor Pretend Play. By transforming the house into a hospital, kids learn about different types of doctors and the important work they do. Using household items and soft toys, children act out various doctor roles, enhancing their understanding of medical professionals in a playful and interactive manner.

  1. Set Up the Hospital: Turn your house into a hospital with different rooms representing different doctor’s offices. Use signs or labels for each room.
  2. Gather Props: Use household items, soft toys, and any available play medical kits as props for the doctors and patients.
  3. Assign Roles: Decide who will play the head doctor (you) and the junior doctor (your child). Soft toys can be used as patients.
  4. Explore Doctor Roles: Visit each “doctor’s office,” explain their role (e.g., pediatrician, dentist, eye doctor), and perform a simple pretend check-up.
  1. Enhances Vocabulary: Children learn new words and terms related to different medical professionals and their functions.
  2. Promotes Imagination: Encourages creative play and storytelling as children act out different scenarios.
  3. Teaches Empathy: Helps children understand the importance of doctors and caring for others.
  4. Builds Confidence: Allows kids to take on leadership roles and make decisions during pretend play.
  1. Use Simple Explanations: Keep explanations of each doctor’s role simple and relatable to your child’s experiences.
  2. Encourage Participation: Let your child take the lead in some parts of the play to boost their confidence and engagement.
  3. Make It Interactive: Ask questions and involve your child in discussions about what each doctor does and why it’s important.
  4. Add Personal Touches: Personalize the activity by using your child’s favorite toys and incorporating their interests into the pretend play.
