BGP045 | Chess Body Kinesthetic

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar and Riddhi Chincholikar

This video introduces a fun and interactive “Chess Body Kinesthetic” game for young children. The activity combines physical movement with basic chess concepts, engaging kids in a playful way to develop motor skills, spatial awareness, and understanding of chess pieces. The game uses a drawn or tiled grid on the floor, where children move like chess pieces to fetch objects, enhancing their physical and cognitive abilities.

  1. Draw or mark a 3×3 grid on the ground using chalk or tiles.
  2. Place different chess pieces or toys on the grid squares.
  3. Instruct the child to move like the chess piece they stand on, following directions.
  4. Gradually introduce more complex moves and combinations as the child progresses.
  1. Enhances motor skills and coordination through diverse movements.
  2. Develops spatial awareness by learning directions (left, right, straight).
  3. Introduces basic chess concepts in an engaging and physical manner.
  4. Promotes cognitive skills like planning and following multi-step instructions.
  1. Start with simple moves using one chess piece to avoid overwhelming the child.
  2. Use toys to initially engage children who may not be attentive.
  3. Keep objects or rewards on the grid to encourage the child to follow directions.
  4. Gradually increase complexity to maintain the child’s interest and challenge their abilities.
