BGPF047 | Miracle garden

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

The Miracle Garden activity is an engaging obstacle course designed to be set up indoors or outdoors, transforming a small space into an adventurous play zone for toddlers. This fun, power-packed activity fosters various forms of intelligence, including body-kinesthetic, social-emotional, and logical-mathematical, while also enhancing physical skills like balance, coordination, and strength. By incorporating elements such as stepping stones, tunnels, and ball tosses, toddlers engage in sensory exploration in a safe environment, making playtime both exciting and developmental.

  • Obstacle Setup: Create a path using soft, colorful stepping stones, foam pads, or cushions to form a “lava path.” Encourage the toddler to balance from one stepping stone to another.
  • Jump Portal: Use a hula hoop or a safe stool as a jump point. Have the toddler jump through this to “enter” the Miracle Garden.
  • Tunnel Crawl: Set up a crawling tunnel using a bedsheet draped over two chairs or sofa cushions. Hide small toys or flashcards inside as “hidden treasures” to be collected along the way.
  • Ball Toss: Place a small bucket or basket a few feet away. Ask the toddler to toss balls or beanbags into it, promoting hand-eye coordination and aiming skills.
  • Enhances gross motor skills like jumping, balancing, and crawling.
  • Encourages imaginative play, sensory exploration, and physical activity.
  • Strengthens hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Builds self-confidence as children complete each task successfully.
  • Adjust the difficulty based on the toddler’s comfort and enthusiasm; use familiar toys or props for added engagement.
  • Give positive reinforcement to encourage participation and build confidence.
  • Incorporate storytelling to make the experience magical; for example, call the path a “lava river” or the hoop a “magic portal.”
  • Make the course modular so you can add or remove sections based on the child’s energy level.
  • Foam pads, cushions, or soft stepping stones
  • Hula hoop or safe stool
  • Large bedsheet or blanket for tunnel creation
  • Small balls or beanbags
  • Bucket or basket for tossing
