BGPF051 | Pretend play(3-4)

The “World Map Explorer” activity introduces young children to geography by taking them on a pretend journey across different countries around the world. Children will explore flags and, optionally, animals, monuments, or currencies associated with each nation, helping them to connect more deeply with world cultures through interactive play.

  • Experience: This age group can appreciate more pretend play elements, adding storylines and objects.
  • Activity: Create a simple “airplane” by lining up chairs or sitting on a large pillow. They can sit while you pretend to be the pilot, describing the “journey” as you gently rock the chairs or sway the pillow.
  • Props: Make a cardboard or paper plate “steering wheel” and give them a “boarding pass” to make it feel like a real trip.
  • Story Element: Describe sights from the “window” like “Look, there’s a rainbow!” or “Do you see the mountains?”

This activity enhances children’s cognitive development by introducing them to basic geography, flags, and cultural symbols. It supports sensory learning and strengthens connections with different global regions in a playful, immersive manner.

  • For a more interactive experience, try pairing each destination with a relevant sensory element (e.g., playing soft Indian music when visiting India or showing a soft toy bear for Germany).
  • Encourage hands-on activities at each stop, such as “making cloth” for India or “sailing a dragon boat” for China, to boost engagement.

  • Flag flashcards (for countries like USA, India, Japan, etc.)
  • Soft toys or animal figurines
