BGPF067 | Outer Space Paper Crinkle

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

This activity introduces children to the wonders of outer space through a fun and engaging hands-on game. It combines visual, auditory, and tactile elements to spark curiosity about planets, stars, and rockets. Kids will interact with crumpled paper, cutouts, and flashlights to simulate a space exploration adventure.

  • Setup:
    1. Create simple cutouts of stars, moon, planets, and rockets using colorful paper.
    2. Prepare crumpled paper balls to simulate a “galaxy.”
    3. Dim the lights in the room and add string lights or a flashlight for visual stimulation.
    4. Use a cardboard box as a pretend rocket ship.
  • Introduction:
    1. Announce the theme: “Today, we are going to outer space!”
    2. Invite the child to sit in the “rocket” and count down for liftoff.
  • Exploration:
    1. Scatter the crumpled paper balls and place cutouts in random locations.
    2. Guide the child to find hidden stars and planets using the flashlight.
    3. Describe the discovered objects: “Wow! You found Saturn with its rings!”
  • Interaction:
    1. Encourage the child to touch, crumple, and explore the papers for sensory stimulation.
    2. Use storytelling to make the activity more immersive.
  • Cognitive Development: Introduces basic space concepts and encourages problem-solving.
  • Motor Skills: Enhances fine motor coordination through crumpling and handling cutouts.
  • Sensory Engagement: Stimulates auditory, visual, and tactile senses.
  • Imaginative Play: Boosts creativity through storytelling and role-play.
  • Keep the activity simple and adjust the content based on the child’s age and familiarity with space concepts.
  • Use shiny or textured paper for cutouts to make them more visually appealing.
  • Encourage the child to describe what they see to promote language development.
  • Add sound effects, like rocket noises or twinkling stars, for added excitement.
  • A4 sheets or colorful paper for cutouts.
