KBGPF011 | Magic Show

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

This “Magic Show” activity for babies is designed to enhance sensory awareness and stimulate curiosity. By using common household liquids and colors, this activity introduces babies to visual tracking, color recognition, cause-and-effect, and basic textures. The simple setup and vibrant color changes engage the baby’s senses, encouraging responsive and attentive behavior.

  • Frequency and Duration: Perform this activity once or twice a week for 5–10 minutes over a period of four weeks to avoid overstimulation.
  • Materials: Use a clear, transparent glass or jar. Begin with household items like turmeric and tea leaves to keep the activity simple and safe.
  • Step-by-Step:
    1. Start with turmeric: Take a spoonful of turmeric in a clear glass and slowly add warm water, watching the color change to yellow. Stir and allow the baby to observe.
    2. Next, use tea leaves: In another clear glass, add tea leaves and warm water, allowing the baby to see the color darken as it dissolves
  • Interaction: Narrate each step in simple words like “yellow,” “warm,” and “magic” in a happy tone. Encourage the baby’s reactions and describe the color changes in bright, easy-to-understand language.
  • Sensory Development: Introduces babies to color, movement, and sensory tracking.
  • Curiosity and Engagement: Builds anticipation and curiosity as the baby watches the color transformations.
  • Early Learning Concepts: Lays the foundation for understanding basic concepts like cause-and-effect, textures, and color recognition
  • Observe Engagement: If the baby is enjoying the activity, feel free to extend it slightly. However, avoid overstimulation.
  • Vary Substances: Use a variety of safe household items each session (e.g., milk, vinegar, baking soda) to keep the activity interesting.
  • Safety First: Keep all materials at a safe distance from the baby to prevent ingestion. Use transparent containers for easy viewing.
