KBGPF017 | Peek a Boo Counting for babies

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

Peekaboo Numbers is a playful and interactive activity designed to introduce early counting concepts to babies. Combining the classic game of peekaboo with foundational number recognition, this activity fosters learning through fun, visual, and auditory stimulation.

  • Gather a few toys or objects.
  • Hide a toy behind a cloth or a box while the baby watches.
  • Say, “Peekaboo! How many toys do you see?”
  • Reveal the toy and say the number aloud (“One toy!”).
  • Gradually increase the number of toys, repeating the process with clear counting.
  • Cognitive Development: Enhances early problem-solving and counting skills.
  • Visual and Auditory Stimulation: Improves visual tracking and number-word association.
  • Social Bonding: Strengthens emotional connections through interactive play.
  • Language Development: Builds vocabulary by associating words with objects.
  • Use colorful and familiar toys to maintain the baby’s interest.
  • Speak clearly and use an animated tone to engage the baby.
  • Keep sessions short but repeat often for better reinforcement.
  • Be patient and responsive to the baby’s reactions.
  • Small toys or objects (e.g., stuffed animals, blocks)
  • A cloth, box, or cover for hiding toys
  • A comfortable play space with minimal distractions
