TBGPF006 | Personalized book

By Dr. Rajeev Tamhankar

Personalized book play is an interactive activity designed to help children develop a love for reading by creating a custom book centered around their interests. This engaging exercise integrates familiar names, faces, and objects to make reading fun, relatable, and meaningful.

  • Prepare Materials: Gather items like passport-sized photos, flashcards (animals, birds, etc.), blank notebook pages, crayons, stickers, and glue.
  • Create the Book: Fold the notebook pages into a booklet, secure them by stapling or tying, and ensure they are ready for personalization.
  • Explore Materials: Let the child explore photos and flashcards, scribble with crayons, and engage with the materials.
  • Guide the Process: Use prompts to involve the child, such as, “Should we add this photo?” or “What should we stick here?”
  • Stick and Decorate: Assist the child in sticking photos or flashcards and decorating pages with crayons or stickers.
  • Add Context: Narrate and describe the images, e.g., “Here’s a picture of mommy! Can you point to her?”
  • Encourage Interaction: Allow the child to share the finished book with family members and create simple stories using the visuals in the book.
  • Builds Reading Interest: Makes books enjoyable and relatable.
  • Enhances Vocabulary and Memory: Links familiar words with images to improve recognition.
  • Develops Motor Skills: Activities like sticking and coloring promote fine motor development.
  • Strengthens Emotional Bonds: Personalized content fosters connection with family members.
  • Boosts Confidence: Achieving small tasks like decorating pages encourages self-assurance.
  • Promotes Social Interaction: Sharing the book with others enhances communication skills.
  • Keep the child engaged by using their favorite themes (e.g., animals, cars, or colors).
  • Use simple and encouraging language to maintain their interest.
  • Allow the child to take breaks if they lose focus.
  • Use stickers and crayons they can handle easily to ensure a stress-free experience.
  • Be patient and let the child lead the activity as much as possible.
  • Passport-sized photos
  • Flashcards (from kits or themed cards)
  • Blank notebook pages or a small notebook
  • Crayons or markers
  • Stickers (easy-to-peel)
  • Glue or tape
  • Scissors (child-safe, if needed for adult use)
